House of Collections
These multimedia works aim to explore the mind & body as a house of collections that continuously accumulates, deteriorates, and transforms matter and memory through one’s lived experiences. By drawing parallels between physical and psychological space, the works emphasize the complexity of being through digital and analog collage, video, sound and mixed media installation. The variety of media works together in a way that feels equally disparate and intertwined, offering multiple narratives for the viewer to take in. The abundance of found and collected materials that make up these works offer points of recognition for the viewer, creating a space that is familiar in some ways, yet is not their own. My process is heavily rooted in observing the absurdities and wonder of everyday life. I harvest found objects, images, sounds that then form a source library made of things like: collections of receipts, tea bag sayings and things that would often otherwise be discarded, forgotten or overlooked. From there I rearrange, remix, and re-contextualize with fragments of my personal history, as an attempt to make meaning from the senseless. In this sense, making is a form of thinking for me. Themes emerge as I fragment and organize these pieces into new configurations that blur the line between the familiar and the unknown, real and imaginary, singularity and abundance, while revealing the connective tissue between our personal and collective experience.
